How To Spring Clean Your Wardrobe
The weathers getting warmer yet not warm enough to squeeze into those shorts and crop tops which don't fit us anymore but we refuse to accept it. That must mean the awkward transition between winter and summer has arrived, aka spring.
Many people relate spring cleaning to vigorously cleaning your house (or in my case my room) from top to bottom and changing the decor, but what we really should be doing this year is spring cleaning our wardrobes! Because let's be serious, we feel much better with a new look than new pillows.
But where do we start? I don't know about you but my wardrobe's an unorganised mess with 1/4th of the clothes actually on hangers and the other 3/4 scattered on my bedroom floor or in a pile at the bottom of the wardrobe. I don't particularly want to face it let alone clean it. But we're in this together and today I'm going to give you some simple tips to make this as easy yet rewarding as possible!
Take everything out of your wardrobe.
Yep, that's right. Take it all out and chuck it on your bed. Every last bit of clothing items you own, even if you're 10000% sure you want to keep it, take it out so you're left with an empty, fresh wardrobe.
Divide your clothes into 3 piles.
Pick out one clothing item at a time and start arranging them into 3 main piles:
- To keep.
- To donate/Throw away.
At first you'll probably want to keep everything and be tempted to just put it all back in your wardrobe, but be strict with yourself! Some good reasons for getting rid of clothes are if they're old and worn, if they no longer fit you (and no, you can't use the excuse that you'll be able to squeeze into them), you hardly wear them, or you don't feel good in them.
With the clothes you have placed in the "unsure" category, quick tip, you don't really want them, otherwise you would have put them in the "keep" pile. So wave goodbye to them too!
Divide your clothes into more piles and plan a shopping trip!
This is by far my favourite part. With all the clothes you have decided to keep, divide them into piles of:
Once you have done this, see what you have a lot of and what you don't have that much of and plan a shopping trip for yourself! For example, if you have loads of trousers yet not many dresses, plan to head to the shops to treat yourself to some new dresses for the summer!
Place everything back into your wardrobe in groups.
If you want an organised morning, have an organised wardrobe. Since you have already placed your clothes into categories in the previous step, simply place them (HANG THEM UP PROPERLY) back into your wardrobe with all of the same clothing items together. This way when you come to get dressed in the morning you can easily find your trousers, tops, etc.
ET VOILA, you have spring cleaned your wardrobe...for this year anyway!
Have you ever spring cleaned your wardrobe?
